Profesor Jozef Kováč Award
prof. Ing. Jozef Kováč, CSc., was born on June 30, 1952 in Košice. He graduated from elementary school in 1967. He entered the Secondary Industrial School of Engineering in 1971, which he successfully graduated with a high school diploma. He further developed his relationship with technology and technical sciences as a student at the Technical College in Košice. His first job after graduating from university was the research institute VUKOV Prešov, where he worked as a research and development worker for two years. In 1978, he joined the Technical University of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Košice, first as an assistant, later as an assistant professor. The scientific rank of CSc. defended in 1982, two years later he was appointed associate professor. He was appointed professor by the president in 2001 in the field of automation and control. prof. Ing. Jozef Kováč, CSc., during his time at the Technical University, worked from the head of the department to the director of the Institute of "Management, Industrial and Digital Engineering". His original professional profile was connected with the robotization program in Slovakia. Other important areas he worked on were focused on the design of production processes and systems, automation, control and CAx technology. In the scientific field, he specialized in the development of industrial engineering issues, automation of project activities, implementation of digital technologies and virtual reality in laboratory activities. He regularly published the results of his scientific research, pedagogical work and the creation of a knowledge base in professional publications.
He was the chairman of the doctoral study union commission at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, a member of the scientific council of the SjF TU in Košice, a member of the scientific committees of domestic and international conferences. He cooperated with Slovak and foreign companies in the field of designing innovations in the automotive and electrical industry. During his teaching career at SjF, he trained a number of doctoral students and was the supervisor of dozens of final student theses. His scientific orientation was related to the field of designing engineering production processes and systems, project management, management of innovations and reengineering programs, hybrid and automated assembly, automation of project activities, organization, management and operation of production. He belonged to the pioneers of the "Košice School of Design". In this field, he is the author and co-author of a number of scientific publications and monographs with a rich citation response. He was a member of teams awarded with 2 gold medals and 2 honourable mentions at the ROBOT and MONTEX Brno exhibitions in 1984, 1986, 1988, company awards from ZŤS Bardejov, Vukov Prešov, ZŤS Košice.

At the end of 2023, after a long-term adverse health condition, our colleague, friend, head of our department, and director of the institute, prof. Ing. Jozef Kováč CSc., in his honor, his colleagues from the Department of Industrial and Digital Engineering decided to award Professor Kováč's prize for extraordinary merit in scientific and research activities.
