Profesor Jozef Mihok Award

Dr. h. c. mult. prof. prof. h. c. Ing. Jozef Mihok, DBA, PhD., was born on April 17, 1950, in Úbrež, Sobrance district. He completed elementary school in 1965. He successfully graduated from secondary school in 1968. He further developed his interest in technology and technical sciences as a student at the Technical University in Kosice, from which he graduated in 1974. After graduating from university, he joined VUES Brno, Kosice plant, as a technical assistant, later serving as head of the department and eventually as deputy director. From 1986, he worked as the production and technical deputy at the state enterprise Elektromont Kosice. In 1991, he became the managing director of the company Bretton. In 2000, he held the position of director of the weapons division at Zbrojovka Brno a.s. From the end of 2000, he served as the general director of Refractory Slovakia s.r.o. Since 2001, he was also the director of Bretton Slovakia s.r.o. In 2003, he moved to Vývoj Martin a.s., where he also served as general director. In 2006, he became the general director of the Strategy section at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. In 2007, he became the chairman of the board of directors of DMD holding, a.s. From 2010, he served as chairman of the Office for Standardization, Metrology, and Testing of the Slovak Republic.

In parallel with his professional positions, he also began to engage in academic work. In 2001, he completed his doctoral studies in the field of Mechanical Engineering Technologies and Materials. In 2002, he was habilitated in the same field. In 2008, he was appointed professor in the field of Industrial Engineering by the president. Since 2003, he has also worked as a faculty member at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Kosice. He has been a member of commissions for state and rigorous examinations at several universities, as well as a member of joint doctoral program committees. He has a rich publication record. He is the author and co-author of dozens of book publications and more than 100 scientific papers, published in scientific journals and conferences both domestically and internationally. He has co-authored several domestic research grant projects and patents for inventions.

He is also the author or co-author of several patents, industrial designs, and certificates of authorship. He has been a member of domestic editorial boards, a member of the presidium of the Slovak Industry Association, a member of the national group of the international organization C.I.P. based in Belgium, a member of the Council of the National Quality Program of the Slovak Republic, a committee at the OECD, a member of the Conformity Assessment Council, vice-president of the Slovak Engineering Industry Association, president of the Slovak Defence Industry Association, and an expert in the field of firearms, ammunition, explosives, and shooting range assessment. In 2008, he was appointed a member of the advisory body of the Slovak Government – the Accreditation Commission. He was the chairman of the Accreditation Commission for Metallurgy and Mining Sciences and the head of the group for research in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

In 2023, after the unfortunate death of our long-time colleague and friend Dr.h.c. prof. Ing. Jozef Mihok, PhD. the employees of the Department of Industrial and Digital Engineering, as the main organizer of the conference, decided in his honor to award the Professor Jozef Mihoh Prize to important collaborators of our workplace in the field of scientific research and other activities.
